The Scene…

I just woke up this morning at about 8. I already know school is gonna be delayed, so I got to sleep in. I look at my phone and notice my friend has texted me answering my question, “Will we have morning practice for basketball?” I check my phone while still in bed.

Lizzie: No it’s snowing
Me: It’s not snow [my thoughts: “It’s just ice and snow that’s melting on the ground. I call snow ‘white cold stuff that’s stuck on the ground.’]
Lizzie: It is here
I jump out of bed and run to my window
Me: Oh my gosh it’s here too!
[my mom comes in]
Mom: By the way, school is totally canceled.
Me: No science test!
(Sorry science teachers and science lovers, but science is not my best subject and I do not look forward to tests)

Yup, I was really happy because it was a…

(I just figured out how to do that!)

Anyway, visitors, that was morning. I’m really happy that we don’t have school, and that we do have snow. There is still a lot of ice, which is not good, but I’ll take it. Here are some pictures:

Ya, that’s not what it looks like, but that’s what I see!

Jack Frost’s Curse

Have you ever wondered why it gets colder in some places than in others? It’s not because of the ‘placement’ of the equator like your Social studies teacher told you. Oh no. It’s much, much, much more. This story has been passed on for years and years (ever since December 12, 2013!). This is the real reason why some places are colder than others:

It all started a long time ago…

Once upon a time (sorry I couldn’t think of another way to start it) there was a little boy named Jack. He was born in Minnesota. However, at this time, there was no such thing as cold, no snow, so Minnesota was as hot as Texas.

Jack was just a normal boy: he went to school, he did his work, and he made friends. However, when Jack got into middle school, he moved to Texas. The kids there picked on him since he wasn’t from there. Sometimes they would lock him outside when it was really hot out. Naturally, Jack started to get mad. The next time the kids locked him outside, he didn’t push at the door or try desperately to get in. He just walked away. He climbed into the nearest tree and stood.

The kids were confused. They didn’t understand why Jack wasn’t upset. Meanwhile, Jack was at work in his tree, but he didn’t know it. Jack was constantly wishing for it to be colder. Suddenly, the tree turn frosty and cold. The bullies gasped and ran away from the door yelling, “Jack made frost! He’s Jack Frost (get it now?)!”
Jack was furious. He ran towards the school. Everywhere he stepped got snowy and cold. When he touched the door, it froze. He was confused. Jack started running around, touching everything he could. Everything turned to frost. People started gathering around to see Jack Frost, the freak that made cold. Jack was humiliated. He ran of, away from everyone, not to be see for years.

While he was gone, Jack swore revenge on those people that embarrassed him. He decided that annually he would make it freezing cold in where ever those kids were, and their defendants. The kids all moved up north to get away from him, but they were really cold ever year to mark the day they made fun of him. Jack also wanted to make it cold every now and then in Texas because of the other people.

And that is why it is cold in some places and not in others.

My Sweet Little Puppy

If you are a regular visitor to my blog (or a visitor at all), you would have noticed my avatar is a picture of a dog:

This is a picture of a Boston Terrier.  I really like Boston Terriers. Here are some facts about them:

  • Hypoallergenic: No
  • Lifespan: 11 – 15 y
  • Height: 38.1 – 43.2 cm (At the withers, Breed standard)
  • Mass: 4.5 – 11.3 kg (Breed standard)
  • Temperament: Lively, Friendly, Intelligent
  • Colors: Brown & White, Brindle & White, Seal & White, Black & White

I picked this picture because my dog is a Boston Terrier named Butler:

I really love my dog. He is 14-years-old, so I’ve had him my entire life. He’s a really funny dog (see his beautiful upside-down picture). He often does not like his picture taken. I really enjoy coming home to a dog everyday. He’s getting really old, though, and It’s really sad. He’s doing well, even though we had to change his living arrangements.

Ok Visitors, Guess What!

Guess what visitors! I’ve made the school basketball team! I’m on the Girls 7th Grade A-Team for the West Ridge Wildcats! GO TEAM! I’ve been playing basketball for 5 years, but this is my first year playing on a school team. My first league (or is it called a group?) was Upward, which is a Christian Basketball league/group for 1st-6th graders (I was in it from 2nd grade to 6th). I loved playing there, but they had different rules than WRMS basketball does, so this year was a big change. Funny story time!

When I was in 3rd grade (I had already been in Upward for 1 year), I remember telling my friend who then challenged me to a 1-on-1 game. It was sad then, but now I laugh at how horrible it turned out. Like I said earlier, the rules were very different, so I didn’t know, for instance, that stealing was allowed. Turns out, my friend did. I remember getting so mad and frustrated because I couldn’t figure out why I was doing so badly! I even tried to ask about it, but I wouldn’t get an answer no matter how hard I tried. After this, I started asking WAY more questions in Upward after that.

So anyway, I made the A-Team. I was so excited when I found out! I now get to play basketball for my school (almost) every Thursday. The team also has my friends on it. It’s really fun to play the sport you love with the people you love to hang out with. Our team’s first game is Thursday November 21, so wish us luck! GO WILDCATS!

From the Kent River Valley

Hi visitors! I’ve decided that I want to tell you a little bit about my name. My name is Kendall, which means “From the Kent River Valley.” For those of you who don’t know me, Kendall is pronounced like the device (kindle). Funnily enough, when I was in fifth grade, my parents got me a Kindle Fire. I haven’t stopped hearing that Kendall has a Kindle since.

Anyway, when my parents were naming me, they were not considering the name Kendall because of its meaning. My mom told me she wanted to name me something that’s meaning was light, and something that was both a boy’s name and a girl’s name. Now, obviously, Kendall does not mean light. However, when you say Kendall out loud, what does it sound like? To me (and a lot of other people), Kendall sounds a lot like candle. Actually, people used to call me Candle when I was younger (it wasn’t very nice, so please don’t).

One interesting, and slighting annoying, thing about my name is how it is spelled, and how other people spell it. I have seen so many spellings of my name it is funny. I have seen Kindle, Kendell, Kendle, Kindel, Kendille (I don’t even get that one), Kendal, and Kindall. None of which are right, but when I tell people how to spell my name they always spell it wrong! My last name is hard to spell too. However, since this is the Internet, I am not going to tell you how people spell my last name, or what it is. All I want you to know is that very little people in my grade can actually spell my name right.

So, now you know a little bit about my name. Now what about you? What does your name mean, and why is that why your parents named you it, or is it another reason, like me? Do you have a name that is hard to spell right, or easy to? What about the ability to say your name? Do people always misspell your name? Do you prefer people to call you something that isn’t your name, like a nickname or your middle name? Leave your answers as a comment please!

Fright Poem

The sky was pitch black
Something wasn’t quite right
The moon cast a dim glow
In the middle of the haunting night

The children played and screamed
A joyous sound in the eire night air
From the talking and laughing
To the ends of the neighborhood’s lair

Still the night went on
The children ran throughout the street
Crying “BOO!” With all their might
Not knowing what they would soon meet

Everyone’s house went dark one by one
Until only a single house was a ablaze
The children stopped to face the looming tower
Every piece of grass covered by a thick haze

To be continued…
Happy Halloween! What do you think is going to happen?

Disney!

I have to confess, I’m a huge fan of Disney! My favorite movies ever are movies like The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, and Aladdin. I also love songs, such as Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas), I Won’t Say I’m in Love (Hercules), Poor Unfortunate Souls and Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid), I Just Can’t Wait to be King (The Loin King), and A Whole New World (Aladdin). I love how Disney movies all have an amazing life messages, and are just fun to watch.

I also think the coolest characters from Disney movies are the villains. Ursula and Jafar are two of my favorites, but mostly Ursula. She is funny, different, and evil. She is also very clever. I like villains because they always think they can outsmart the main character, but they never do because the main character will always come out on top. Disney villains also always have the best songs. Check out this song from The Little Mermaid, Ursula’s Poor Unfortunate Souls!

Now that you have seen that, do you get why I like villain’s songs? They are so much fun! I hope you enjoyed. Please comment and tell me what Disney movies you like and why!

Pumpkins!

This Friday at my church, we unloaded an entire truckload of pumpkins! Every year at Halloween my church has a pumpkin patch and sells pumpkin with the help of everyone. It’s really fun and neat to see everyone working hard to help the church.

Normally we only get only part, or half, of a truck. That is always my least favorite part: having to keep track of the number of pumpkins. This year, thought, we got the whole truck! 2,000 pumpkins! Having to unload that many pumpkins needs a lot of help which we didn’t have. There were only about 20 of us there on Friday, so we didn’t quite finish. We did get half of the truck unloaded though! It was amazing! Since we didn’t finish we will have to on Sunday after church.
